If you want to make a new benefit claim, you can ring 0800 055 6688. This includes claiming for employment and Income Support if you are a single parent and are not currently working. Many of the existing benefits are being brought together under the new Universal Credit benefit and you may be required to apply for this instead. It offers interest-free emergency loans that are due on a specific date. You can also use the line if you have taken a crisis loan in the past and may be eligible for the new system.

If you receive maternity allowance due to a lack of statutory maternity pay, you can call 0345 608 8610 or freephone 0800 169 0283. If you have a change of circumstances, you can ring one of these numbers to advise the team and ensure your details are accurate. If you want to complain about the amount of money you are being paid and file a Mandatory Reconsideration Notice, then use this number.

If your husband, wife or civil partner has passed away, you can contact the bereavement team on 0345 608 8601. You may also be eligible for a £2000 payment if the deceased had contributed national insurance payments. You can follow up on existing claims via this number.
